Metering rods are widely used across various manufacturing industries. In the paper industry, they are used for sizing and coating specialty papers, thermal papers, and release papers¹¹¹² In the packaging and printing sector, they are commonly used for coating adhesive tapes, protective films, labels, and BOPP films²¹¹ In the optoelectronics industry, due to extremely high requirements for coating precision and cleanliness, metering rods are used in the manufacture of products such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and photovoltaic films. Additionally, in laboratory settings, metering rods are essential tools for performance testing and formulation development of products such as coatings, inks, and adhesives.
Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance is key to extending the service life of metering rods and ensuring coating quality. They should be cleaned immediately after use to prevent paint from drying and clogging the grooves. For cleaning, soak the rods in a specialized cleaning solution and scrub along the grain using a soft-bristle brush or a dedicated cleaning brush. Never use steel wool or abrasive materials, as they may scratch the surface. For long-term storage, the gauge should be thoroughly cleaned, coated with rust-preventive oil, and placed in a dry, well-ventilated area. Long-length gauges should be stored in a vertical, suspended position to prevent deformation caused by pressure when laid flat. Additionally, the surface should be inspected regularly for scratches, wear, or deformation, and severely worn gauges should be replaced promptly to ensure coating accuracy.
