How to Maintain a Metering Rods

To ensure that the metering rod functions properly and achieves its expected service life, regular inspection, maintenance, and care are essential. Maintenance and care of the metering rod primarily involve the following aspects:

I. Cleaning Methods

After coating is complete, remove the measuring rod and immediately clean it with clean water or a paint cleaner. Then, wipe it dry with a soft cotton cloth following the grain of the rod, apply a uniform coat of machine oil for protection, and store it in the telescopic tube (do not wait for the solvent to dry before cleaning the metering rod; under no circumstances should you leave it uncleaned until the next use).
When cleaning the surface of the metering rod, take care to avoid scratching it. Do not use cleaning solutions containing bleach or abrasives, steel wool, or abrasive tools. To remove any residual cleaning solution, rinse the surface with clean water after cleaning.

II. Dust Removal

Dust and easily removable contaminants on the measuring rod’s surface can be cleaned with water or a mild soap solution. For adhesive residues, use alcohol or organic solvents (such as ether or benzene) to wipe the surface.

III. Grease

For grease or lubricant contamination on the surface of the metering rod, wipe it clean with a soft cloth first, then wash it with a neutral detergent, ammonia solution, or a specialized cleaning agent.

IV. Adhered Rust

If bleach or various acids adhere to the metering rod, rinse immediately with water, then soak in an ammonia solution or a neutral sodium bicarbonate solution, and wash with a neutral detergent or warm water. For rust caused by surface contaminants, remove the contaminants or rust using a commercially available rust-removing paste, then clean thoroughly with clean water or a mild alkaline soap solution.
